Product Layering? Confused?

Product layering, can be a little confusing to say the least: Toner before or after Serum? Eye cream before or after Face Cream? But to get the best results from your beauty purchases it's important to apply them in the right order.

However, it is important to note that sometimes 2 or 3 of the below explained routines can be incorporated into one. For example, our Weather Protect Face Cream, it could be argued, cover points 8 & 10

Here are ten easy steps to make it easier for you; just skip the ones that don’t apply to you. Read on and learn how to layer like a professional...

1. Cleanser

A cleanser is lightweight water- or oil-based product that removes dirt, grime, and makeup. Cleansing is a chance to give your skin a fresh start. Cleanser always comes first in your skincare routine because it washes off dead skin cells and makeup residues off your face. Therefore, preventing clogged pores and breakouts. Go to Cleanser page.

2. Exfoliate/Mask

Exfoliating gets rid of dead skin cells that clog the skin, thus allowing products like moisturiser in the later steps to penetrate deeper and be more effective. This is something to add into your routine just a couple of times each week. Go to Mask page.

3. Toner

Soak a cotton pad in toner and wipe over your face and neck to remove stubborn dirt or make-up left over after washing. It will also help rebalance skin after washing - great if you live in a hard water area - remove excess oil and tighten pores. Got to Toner page.

4. Face Mists

Face mists are an optional in your skin care layering, face mists come after toners. They provide extra hydration to the skin. This is especially great if you have parched skin. Go to Face Mist page.

5. Spot Cream or Balm/Salve

They treat skin issues like eczema, dark spots, acne breakouts, or blackheads. They also treat skin reactions like allergies. The creams are targeted in nature. This makes them an optional tool. But if they are in your skincare routine, they are layered on a serum. Go to Skin Repair page.

6. Serum

Serums are thin and full of active ingredients you want to drive deep into your pores, so start with them before you move on to fuller-bodied creams. Serums are also targeted products that provide skin rejuvenation and treatment to specific skin issues i.e.dry skin or combination skin etc.

Serums are one of the most important skincare products in any routine. This is because they offer concentrated active ingredients that treat your skin imperfections in a short time.

While toners open your skin, serums penetrate to provide instant treatment that provides a result in no time. Go To Serums page.

7. Eye Cream

An common mistake is applying eye cream last in your routine. Like serums, these creams are strong and need to be clear of barriers to absorb properly - so it makes sense to apply before your heavier moisturisers and oils. They rejuvinate your eye area, reduce wrinkles, fine lines, dark circles, or dull skin colour. Go to Eye page.

8. Moisturiser

Now we come to the "pièce de résistance" of any routine, moisturiser! Squeeze a pea-sized amount into your fingertips, rub together to warm, then press it into your face (use gentle upward strokes on your neck, too). This will encourage blood flow and wake up your skin without stretching it. Go to Creams & Lotion Bars page.

9. Oil

Oil easily penetrates through other creams, lotions and serums. Press it into your skin to seal your moisturiser down and deliver pore-refining, skin-brightening benefits.

10. Environmental/Sun protection

Last but not least in your skin care layering. Sun protection (UV protection) creating a shield on your skin from external pollutants, free radicals, and ultraviolet radiation.

Obviously, your night routine does not need sunscreen. One of our Creams also acts as a sun and environmental protection moisturiser and that is Weather Protect Cream.
